|The underwriter will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing and making credit decisions on requests from existing and potential clients for home equity and 1st mortgage products. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to the following:|
Perform the analysis and make credit decisions on loans in accordance with all credit and product policies.
Assist with and contribute to the continued effort to improve the department and those around you.
Assist with the development and installation of the New Credit Decisioning System and suggest ways to improve the daily decisioning tools.
Accurately follow all procedures and processing guidelines.
Thoroughly understand and apply credit policies, loan product policies and all federal regulations related to the granting of credit (i.e., Reg. B, FCRA, Reg. Z, Reg. AA, Reg. O).
Recommend updates and changes to credit policies and procedures and ensure that the Credit Department is in compliance with those policies and procedures.
Develop loan applications and answer questions for applicants over the telephone when necessary.
Remain flexible and work with team members and management to staff the Credit Department during hours of operation.
An undergraduate degree and 3 - 5 years of related work experience in a high volume lending environment.
Extensive knowledge of home equity and mortgage lending, preferably in a retail banking environment.
Demonstrated ability to learn new systems and concepts quickly.
Computer literate in a network environment (i.e., NT, MS Office Products, etc.)
Excellent communication skills and the willingness and desire to work in a dynamic, flexible, fast-paced environment a must.

ING Direct's Credit Department is responsible for reviewing and evaluating all loan applications to determine the underlying credit quality of the borrower, measured against ING Direct Credit policies and underwriting guidelines. The mandate of the Credit Department is to effectively maintain and enhance the quality of ING Direct's loan portfolio, with detailed analysis, creative decision-making, and strict adherence to ING Direct's Credit policies.
The Mortgage/Home Equity Underwriter is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and adjudicating mortgage and home equity credit applications on request from existing ING Direct clients and from new applicants, and ensuring that Company Credit policies are followed.
